Empowering and Innovative Voices Shine at Signal 2021

Marc Pritchard, P&G’s Chief Brand Officer, speaks at Signal 10.

We wrapped our tenth annual P&G Signal event, featuring two days of programming filled with inspirational speakers ranging from businesspeople to professors to celebrities. P&G put the spotlight on each newsmaker and several P&G trailblazers, who are doing innovative work day in and day out inside our walls.

It’s no doubt that Signal has looked a bit different for the past two years, featuring more virtual programming and at-home viewing. However, the purpose and motivation behind each speaker’s message had each attendee feeling motivated and ready to continue working towards a more innovative and inclusive workplace and world.

Across the board, inspiration struck from the diverse array of speakers who sat down with John Battelle to tell their stories. A few quotes stuck with us closely:

Hugh Evans, Founder and CEO of Global Citizen, spoke at Signal 10.
  • “It’s much better to encourage people with positivity than to force people to the table, because society changes when you inspire people to act” – Hugh Evans, Global Citizen

Joy Buolamwini of the Algorithmic Justice Institute spoke at Signal 10.
  • “If we are measuring progress with data on benchmarks that don’t reflect the rest of society, we’re actually destined to exclude and destined to discriminate” – Joy Buolamwini, the Algorithmic Justice Institute

Malcolm Gladwell spoke at Signal 10.
  • “Only in very specific moments of high tension or disruption are we compelled to rethink our position on things… and that’s why crises are such opportunities” – Malcolm Gladwell

These are just a few of the moments from this week that are driving us into the future with full force to inspire, innovate and fuel the people around us. As we move forward from a year of unprecedented challenges, it’s important now more than ever to ensure we are encouraging one another in our daily lives. Whether it’s working to combat poverty, fighting for diversity in our workplaces, our data and our world in general, or using the challenges of the past year to find opportunities, Signal 2021 brought us inspiration we’re excited to carry forward at P&G and outside in the world.

Thank you to everyone who attended the tenth anniversary programming! What was your favorite moment from this year? Let us know in the comments. If you missed this year’s Signal, keep an eye out for recordings of each moment coming to the public in the coming months.

And most importantly, mark your calendars for the 11th year of Signal in July 2022.
