A Force for Growth, Good and Hope | How P&G is Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community with Pride

Pride is not about a single day or month, but rather a year-round commitment to creating a more accepting world for everyone, with equal representation, equal voice and equal opportunity. As we celebrate more than 30 years of LGBTQ+ equality within P&G, Pride Month is a time to reflect on how far we’ve come while recognizing the work that is left to be done within and outside of our organization.

In 2020, we began our partnership with iHeartMedia to raise awareness and support for the LGBTQ+ community during the COVID-19 pandemic, creating “Can’t Cancel Pride.” This year’s theme will focus on a message of hope: The Future Starts Now. It’ll be an evening recognizing the past, present and future of the LGBTQ+ community and organizations that continue to help create a more inclusive and equal world. The show will be hosted by JoJo Siwa, actress, dancer, singer and content creator known for her universal message of kindness and acceptance.

Can’t Cancel Pride, will also feature performances and appearances from Brandi Carlile, Adam Lambert, Big Freedia, Ciara, Billy Porter, Hayley Kiyoko, Kesha, Kelsea Ballerini and more.

The event — which has raised over $11 million to-date — will benefit our core LGBTQ+ community partners, each of which has a unique and important role in serving this community:

  • GLAAD, in their role as the largest LGBTQ+ media advocacy organization, works to ensure fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the LGBTQ+ community in media. With the shared goal of visibility and acceptance, our support helps GLAAD reshape the narrative and promote dialogue that leads to positive change.

  • The Trevor Project reports that nearly 45% of the youth they serve through their crisis services are youth of color. The 2022 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health made it clear that many young LGBTQ people of color would benefit from increased access to culturally competent mental health services. Our support of The Trevor Project advances visibility, provides diverse communities with better care and empowers better support for LGBTQ young people.

  • The National Black Justice Coalition works across advocacy spaces to increase safety for LGBTQ+ people and their families. From internet access to education and healthcare, supporting NBJC helps to increase access and serve Black LGBTQ+ and Same Gender Loving people, including those living with HIV/AIDS. Together we seek to help young black people navigate the difficulties of holding multiple marginalized identities.

  • SAGE provides advocacy, services and support to older members of the LGBTQ+ community so that they can age with dignity. Our work with SAGE supports services that include housing & healthcare, caregiving, legal & financial advisory and social isolation prevention for the LGBTQ+ community, all which have proved to be lifesaving during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

  • CenterLink serves a network of 300+ LGBTQ+ community centers across the U.S. that provide critical resources and connections for LGBTQ+ individuals seeking information, healthcare and a sense of community. Since we began working with CenterLink, the number of centers across urban and rural areas has almost doubled, allowing them to reach more individuals in need of a safe space.

  • Outright International works with partners around the globe to strengthen the reach of the LGBTIQ human rights movement, document human rights violations and advocate for inclusion and equality. Outright also provides critical services to members of the LGBTQ+ community in emergency situations, ensuring they have safe and equitable access to life-saving care and resources.

Finally, as part of our pride celebrations, we want to thank our courageous leaders, the first seeds of hope in our journey to LGBTQ+ acceptance. We continue this work in your honor and for the generations of P&Gers to come.

To nurture hope is to be a force for good. Let’s continue to grow our impact together.
