Cincinnati Headquarters:
Gardens Renovation.

P&G’s Gardens have long been an integral part of our Cincinnati headquarters—shaped by our history, values and people. And while the Gardens have served us well for more than four decades, we are making updates to deliver an enhanced employee and visitor experience.

The History of P&G’s Gardens

P&G has been headquartered in Cincinnati since our founding in 1837 by brothers-in-law William Procter and James Gamble.

Our Gardens, located on the campus of our headquarters in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, date back to the mid-1980s, when P&G’s famous Towers were built. At the time, the Gardens were the largest privately owned green space in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, and consisted of 13,000 tulips, 2,700 annuals and nine tree varieties.

Since that time, the Gardens have served as a beautiful respite for employees and community members alike.

P&G’s then-CEO John Smale and his wife Phyllis had a passion for gardening and understood the importance of green spaces in urban landscapes. It was Phyllis’ influence that led her husband to seek an enlarged and enhanced green space in downtown Cincinnati as part of the Tower's construction.

Updating P&G’s Gardens: Planned Renovations in 2026 and 2027

While the Gardens have served us well for more than four decades, we are making updates to deliver an enhanced employee and visitor experience.

The work will happen in phases beginning in early 2026 and will include updates to the Gardens outside the Towers and Central buildings as well as modifications to the driveway outside of the Central Building. The project is expected to be completed in 2027.

The updated Gardens will create a vibrant, enjoyable and work-friendly environment for employees, featuring more gathering spaces, improved accessibility and reduced maintenance needs.

FAQs

P&G is updating the Gardens outside of our headquarters to create a vibrant, enjoyable and work-friendly environment for our employees, featuring more gathering spaces, improved accessibility and reduced maintenance needs.

  • We will replace the aging wooden trellis and pavers with a covered walkway, removing the corner stairs along Fifth Street to create seating areas and a continuous walking elevation.
  • Modifications at the corners will clearly define entry points while maintaining a welcoming character.
  • The new design will feature more seating options for informal gatherings, reflection and outdoor workspaces.
  • Universally accessible routes will enable employees and visitors of all abilities to navigate the gardens more easily, including access to lawns that were previously inaccessible.
  • The lawns will be enhanced with paths, seating and art.
  • The Central Building driveway will be shortened to create a new pedestrian plaza directly in front of the building entrance to accommodate lunch gatherings, staged events and serve as a general meeting point – while enabling employees to directly and safely access the Gardens without walking through the driveway.

The work will begin in early 2026 and last through mid-2027.

Safety barriers and fencing will be in place during the renovation, and the various spaces will be inaccessible by employees or external visitors while they are under construction. Completing the work in phases allows us to maintain access to portions of the Gardens and minimize disruption. Once completed, the Gardens will have fewer access points from the surrounding sidewalk.

We will remove vegetation that is dead or has outlived its lifespan or that will be impacted by the new walkway structure, as well as roots that have penetrated into other areas of the gardens. The Wisteria, which was planted in 1984 when the Towers were built, is an important part of our history, and the team is taking great care to preserve those existing vines that are healthy and can be pruned back to ensure maximum longevity. We will plant new ground cover and other blooming plants that, over time, will fill in the walkway area and add beauty throughout the year. The reimagined garden experience will include integrated artwork, flexible seating and a seasonal planting palette that invites repeat visits.

Renovations in the Gardens are one of many renovation projects currently taking place at P&G’s headquarters. Other projects include an upgraded cafeteria, which is currently under renovation, and a new state-of-the-art fitness center that opened last year.

Even in the most cost-conscious of times, the Company is making a deliberate choice to invest in a superior employee experience, including physical and digital collaboration workspaces that allow our people to work and come together for community, learning and collaboration.
