P&G and Always Unite with Period Heroes to #EndPeriodPoverty
Global Citizen Festival Sets the Stage for Action
“As a teacher in Harlem, I saw some of my students struggling to afford period products. It’s why I founded Her Village…we’ve supported thousands of girls across all five city boroughs (New York) with period supplies to ensure that they can go to school or work with dignity.”
— Chantal Allison Konteh, Founder of Her Village and Always Period Hero from New York State
No girl or woman should go without a period education or the supplies they need for school or in life. Thanks to Period Heroes like Chantal, girls and women around the world have a community stepping up to support them in their personal care and in success. Together with our brands Always and Whisper — and advocates and partners like Global Citizen, WASH United and many more — Period Heroes are taking action to #EndPeriodPoverty NOW.

On Saturday, September 23, P&G again joined the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park in New York City and come together with artists, activists, world leaders, philanthropists, company leaders, and more on a collective mission to end extreme poverty. The Global Citizen Festival is an annual concert event rallying changemakers to call for more action. This year, we were back with more Always Period Heroes to bring greater awareness to this global challenge and help create a more gender-equal world for all. To inspire a movement of sisterhood, local dancers will took to the stage to perform the iconic #BloodSisters dance choreographed by South Africa’s Always #KeepingGirlsInSchools ambassador Bontle Modiselle. The dance encourages girls to feel confident and empowered every day, period or no period.Local period hero Chantal Alison-Konteh of Her Village then shared how period poverty is affecting girls in the U.S., including uptown from the festival in Harlem and the Bronx, New York. Watch as period poverty activists, joined with dancers from GrassROOTS Community Foundation in the collective mission to tackle period poverty locally and globally.
Continuing Efforts with Brands and Partners to End Period Poverty
This work builds on the announcements made by trailblazing Always Period Heroes and founders of Women in Training, Brooke and Breanna Bennett at the 2022 Global Citizen Festival. Last year, we came together with our brands Always and Whisper, Global Citizen and other supporting organizations for the launch of the Global Menstrual Equity Accelerator. Starting with the Period for Change initiative, the effort is working to fight stigma, expand education, and improve access to sustainable resources and products to help support millions of people who are facing Period Poverty.
In 2022, Brooke and Breanna Bennett announced the Global Menstrual Equity Accelerator with Miss Universe, Harnaaz Sandhu.

Taking Action Year Round
Global Citizen is an important annual event to raise awareness of year-round actions to help end poverty in communities around the world. We’re inspired year-round by the many partners, leaders and game changers that help us and our brands take action and create impact in the communities we serve.
Whether it’s providing children and families with access to safe drinking water, closing the gender gap in education, or improving the lives of people we serve through our brands, products and education programs, it’s important to us to be a Force for Growth and a Force for Good. When we do both of these things, communities are healthier, businesses thrive and the world is a better place for everyone.
