CES 2021 Wrap-Up: P&G Virtual LifeLab Everyday Impresses While Oral Care, Home Care and Sustainability Innovations Shine
While the Consumer Electronics Show looked a bit different after CTA made the decision to go all-virtual for the first time in the show’s history, P&G showed up and stepped up to demonstrate how we are defining and growing brands that consumers love and trust with superior, irresistible innovation.
In a week where innovation radiated amidst uncertainty, P&G LifeLab Everyday demonstrated how we are leading constructive disruption by harnessing new technologies, embracing lean innovation and leveraging partnerships to deliver products and services that enhance the human experience.
This year marked P&G’s third annual showing at CES, and the Company and our brands, including Oral-B, Febreze, EC30, Microban 24, Dawn, Cascade and Bounty, brought innovations not only to those attending CES, but also to all consumers through the first-ever all-virtual P&G LifeLab Everyday experience.
We are living in a time of mass disruption, where consumers and companies are challenged to navigate new ways of living and working, and the way we all interact with each other has changed. In the words of Chief Brand Officer Marc Pritchard, the only way to deal with disruption is to lead it. As part of our commitment to constructive disruption, we embraced this unique year and the opportunity it presented for us to reimage the P&G LifeLab. The virtual, avatar-led experience offered a "behind the scenes" look at our commitment to reinventing the consumer experience through superior products and services that not only improve everyday life, but also help to create a better future for our society and our planet.
P&G has made a choice to build citizenship into how we innovate, how we build brands, and how we conduct business for the good of the consumers we serve and for the world in which we live. We are committed to stepping up as a force for good and growth and showcased connected products that drive sustainable behavior in addition to creating a more equal and inclusive world.
The P&G LifeLab Everyday highlighted innovations including the Oral-B iO, Dawn Powerwash Febreze Fade Defy Plug Air Freshener, Microban 24, EC30, Cascade and Bounty, as well as sustainability initiatives including 50L Home and Holy Grail. Each of these innovations demonstrate just how we continue to reinvent the consumer experience with new innovations; superior, inclusive design; and human-centered technologies, that connect and improve life in simple and meaningful ways.
Another highlight of P&G’s CES presence was the 3rd Annual CES P&G Ventures Innovation Challenge. Held virtually on stage, the challenge included pitches from four dynamic startups, all competing for the chance to win $10,000 and the opportunity to work with P&G Ventures. The pitches were evaluated by a panel of expert judges that included P&G Ventures SVP and General Manager Leigh Radford and P&G Ventures SVP of Research and Development Julie Setser.
Bill Birgen of SAVRpak, a patented food packaging technology that that keeps food fresh and reduces food waste by removing moisture from the air, won this year’s title and $10,000. (More on all four finalists can be found here.)
More than 475 people registered to watch the challenge online—nearly 40 percent more than the Innovation Challenge held virtually in June. This event underscores P&G Ventures’ ongoing efforts to support startups, inventors and entrepreneurs, and celebrate their innovations that improve consumers lives.
In addition to hosting the Innovation Challenge, the P&G LifeLab Everyday theater also featured brand demonstrations from our Oral Care and Home Care experts and various panel sessions including The Female Founders Journey, The Connected Consumer Experience: The Next Frontier of Mass Personalization and Building Great Brands Direct-to-Consumer. Replays will soon be available via PGLifeLab.com
Other CES programming included Spotlight Sessions on Stepping Up to Lead with Chief Brand Officer Marc Pritchard, Digital Transformation & the Connected Consumer with Chief Information Officer Vittorio Cretella, Building Sustainability and Battling Climate Change with Chief Sustainability Officer Virginie Helias, and Sr. Vice President of R&D and Oral Care Lisa Ernst’s participation in Kohler’s Smart Home Innovation Panel.
The week was filled with great virtual tours, conversation and planned events, and we’ve enjoyed “meeting” all of you virtually to share our growing commitment to innovation, sustainability and building a better world for all of us.
