For years, Procter & Gamble has been committed to advancing equal opportunity for all people and using our voice to shine a light on inequality, highlight bias and encourage dialogue that leads to widespread understanding and action. We are proud to announce that LGBTQ+ workplace equality nonprofit, Out & Equal, has named Procter & Gamble the 2020 LGBTQ+ Marketer of the Year.
As a leading advertiser, we are committed to use our voice to drive acceptance, equality and inclusion for all people, no matter their background. This includes accurately and authentically portraying LGBTQ+ individuals and families in our advertising and promoting inclusivity through our platforms.
On the importance of visibility in marketing, P&G’s Global LGBTQ+ Equality Program Leader Brent Miller stated: “For a company like P&G, advertising is often the mechanism for us to get our message out to the world, and our obligation is to reflect all of society, to reflect all of humanity. Sometimes when you’re a marginalized community, the simple act of an authentically honest inclusion has a profound ability to tell somebody that you matter.”
The COVID-19 pandemic altered life as we knew it earlier this year, making it even more critical for us to reach communities - especially as we witnessed the cancellation of in-person events. As a result, P&G made it a priority to hold a virtual Pride benefit to help LGBTQ+ organizations impacted by COVID-19, leading to the inception of Can't Cancel Pride. The event brought together P&G brands to drive visibility of the LGTBQ+ community and raise more than $4 million to support LGBTQ+ organizations that have been deeply impacted by COVID-19.
Through our position as a major advertiser, P&G will continue to use our platform to amplify marginalized voices and bring visibility to the communities that need it the most. Thank you to Out & Equal for recognizing these efforts!
